Mercedes Metris Conversion Van at Dave Arbogast
Explorer Van Company looks to the luxury market and sculpts the sexy yet formidably utilitarian mid-size Mercedes-Benz Metris Conversion Van.
Gearing most of its products towards the family trip, children hauling, weekend getaway or girls’ day out lifestyle markets, the Explorer Vans company has become renowned for its luxuriously-appointed conversion vans that are far from ordinary. It is through these carefully-sculpted products that smart engineering meets thoughtful design, yielding vessels of transportation that boast sumptuous comfort, practical-yet-elegant styling and customizable features…all which make these vans more akin to a second home rather than a moving conveyance.
Recently, Explorer Van Company threw its hat into the luxury market ring with the creation of the stunning Mercedes-Benz Metris Conversion, the first mid-size van of its kind. With a list of standard features such as Flint Grey Metallic paint, Tunja Black upholstery, automatic climate control, rear backup alarm, premium overhead control panel and much more, the Metris represents an almost unheard-of value proposition in the conversion van sector – a market Explorer Vans continues to dominate in several key areas.
As the latest addition to the Explorer Van family, the Mercedes Metris exposes the Explorer Van lifestyle to those buyers who don’t necessarily require a full-size van, but still desire the comfort, style and custom feel only Explorer can provide. Whether it’s a family that has outgrown their minivan, is tired of being seen in the same old SUV that everyone else on the block owns or is in need of more interior space but doesn’t want to make the jump to a full-size van or SUV, the Metris potentially represents the perfect minivan alternative.
Further, the Mercedes Metris Conversion Van was designed by Explorer Vans to offer relatively nimble dimensions with the cargo/passenger-carrying ability boasted of larger vans; slotted between a minivan and full-size variant, the Metris has become a fusion representative, of sorts, between the custom appointments Explorer Vans are known for and everything a discerning buyer would expect from a Mercedes-Benz. What’s more, the vehicle’s standard equipment list is every bit as impressive as the van itself, encompassing such premium touches as full one-piece 32-ounce carpet with closed cell foam insulation, Dynamat sound-deadening subfloor, driver and passenger seats with pedestal covers, six-way power driver pedestal, dual quick-release middle captain’s chairs with integrated seat belts, three passenger quick-release rear sofas with kickboard drawer storage, deluxe fully-carpeted floor mats, color-coded wire harness, headliner reading lamps, painted front and rear bumpers/front grill/mirrors/door handles, automotive leather door kits featuring Mercedes logo, leather-wrapped interior factory components and more.
Options for the Metris include a Sportroof with panoramic vista cruiser glass, rear power sunroof, custom fade paint, lower body cladding with chrome trim, chrome front grill, 22-inch HDTV with Blu-ray player (on raised-roof models), 17-inch flip-down HDTV with Blu-ray player (on low-roof models), upgraded entertainment package with 110-volt outlet and HDMI input, 17-inch PVD chrome wheels with Michelin tires and 18-inch PVD chrome wheels with Michelin tires.
Ultimately, the Metris makes no promises that it cannot keep – what you see is what you get. Slotted between its full-size sibling, the Sprinter, and smaller vans like the Ford Transit Connect, the Metris by Explorer Vans offers relatively nimble dimensions with the cargo-carrying ability of larger vans, while under the hood a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 208 horsepower through a seven-speed automatic with rear-wheel-drive. In summary, this luxo-minivan gets all the big-truck boxes ticked off at a lower MSRP and half the fuel burn, and will definitely be one to watch in 2016.

sweet deal-
I would like to know if camper conversions are available, similar to the Marco Polo that is available in Europe?
Hi Elisa, after doing some research the Marco Polo is not available in the US as of now. There is speculation about that model coming to the US market however, the time frame is unkown as of now. Perhaps a Class B Motorhome may be of your interest?
Could a person 5’4 stand up in the back of the hightop metris van conversion? What is the height from floor to ceiling in the back?
Thank you
Thanks for the question Marc! The Mercedes Metris Hi-Top passenger area measures in around 4’5
